Chiropractic Care FAQs
Will I be adjusted on my first visit?
Sometimes. If it’s clinically appropriate and you’re comfortable, care may begin on the first visit. In other cases, we may wait until the second visit after reviewing findings.
How do you know where to adjust?
We have been fortunate to care for thousands of patients with their own body type and health challenges. With that experience we are able to use many different types of “indicators” when deciding where to adjust each patient, and to do it efficiently and effectively.
For example, we use our hands to detect subtle changes in spinal muscle tension, inflammation, tension or tone of the joints, and restricted motion or misalignment of the joints. We are constantly observing patients for changes in posture, unusual walking patterns, head tilt or rotation, along with many other visual indicators that can uncover a clue of where an underlying problem exists. Posture images and X-rays serve to help us confirm what we are feeling.
Why do you check my feet while performing the adjustments?
Subluxations in the spine and pelvis will create imbalances in posture, strength and motion that can be measured by many different tools. One way to quickly measure that imbalance is to observe a person’s functional leg length. We “check your feet” frequently to measure your leg length and to see how it changes as we make corrections to your spine.
Using these leg length indicators do not tell us where to adjust, but rather inform us of how balanced your spine is and how tension on the spinal cord is changing with each adjustment we make.
Can my kids get adjusted?
Dr. Chaz checks kids and infants of all ages for misalignments in the spine. The birthing process is very stressful, not only for mom, but baby as well. We like to get kids checked a few days after birth to make sure they are growing up without any underlying complications.
Adjusting kids and infants is very gentle and safe; it's very similar to checking the ripeness of a tomato. Science shows that a 'natural birth' causes a misalignment to the top bone (Atlas) in over 90% of babies. Also, a C-section can be equivalent to a Grade II Whiplash injury, so we recommend getting kids checked as early as possible. We have a saying in the office: "Healthy kids grow up to be healthy adults. Sick kids grow up to be sick adults." So we love getting kids checked as early as possible and making sure they are functioning at their optimal potential.
Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Yes. Chiropractic care is widely recognized as one of the safest, most effective, non-invasive treatments for musculoskeletal issues. Our doctors at Ascend Family Chiropractic use precise, evidence-based techniques customized to your comfort level and health needs
What should I expect during my first chiropractic visit?
Your first visit begins with a thorough consultation and spinal evaluation. We’ll discuss your health history, perform any necessary exams, and take X-rays if needed to identify the root cause of your symptoms.
On your second visit, you’ll receive a Report of Findings—a personalized explanation of your results, recommended care plan, and your first adjustment to start the healing process.
Do I have to commit to a care plan?
No. We make recommendations, explain why, and let you decide what’s best for you.
Do I need to be in pain to come in?
No. Some patients come for relief, others for wellness and prevention. Both are welcome.
How soon will I start feeling better?
Many patients notice improvements within the first few adjustments—less pain, better posture, and increased energy. However, long-term results depend on consistency, overall health, and following your recommended care plan.
